The new Google Docs are a lot more complicated than the old ones. There's no simple way to change themes, add custom backgrounds, adjust fonts, or even change the layout of your document. To make matters worse, they're also not compatible with Microsoft Office files, meaning that if you have any existing documents made with Word or Excel, you won't be able to open them in the new version without having to re-type everything from scratch.
1. Google Docs Is Not A Replication Of Microsoft Word
Google Docs is not a replication of Microsoft Word. While this may seem like a small thing, but it’s actually quite a big deal. If you have ever used Microsoft Word, you know how annoying it can be. Google Docs has been designed from the ground up to be much simpler than Microsoft Word. This means that it doesn't require you to learn a whole bunch of useless features before you start using it. In fact, it's pretty easy to use, even if you're completely unfamiliar with computers.
2. No More Clutter
One of the biggest problems with Microsoft Word is the amount of clutter that gets added to your document. There are endless options that can be chosen to customize the way that your document looks. With Google Docs, however, you only get what you need. Every option is clearly labeled and easily accessible. Since everything is kept simple, you don't have to worry about having too many options at once.
3. Works On Any Computer
Microsoft Word works great on any computer, but it requires you to download a program called Microsoft Office. Google Docs, however works just fine without needing any special software. All you need is a web browser. So no matter where you are, you'll always be able to access your documents.
4. It's not free anymore
Google has decided that they are going to charge $10/month for this service, but if you have been paying attention, you know that Google Docs was never really free anyway. If you read the fine print, you'll notice that you are only allowed to use 5GB of storage space per month and only 1GB of editing time. This means that if you want to work on a document longer than five pages, you need to pay for it.
5. It's still buggy
One of the best things about Google Docs is how easy it is to edit documents. However, even though Google claims their software is updated frequently, I've noticed that some features just don't work properly. One example would be inserting images into your documents. When I tried to insert an image from my computer, the entire document would crash. Another issue I had was trying to upload multiple files at once. Sometimes, after uploading a file, the system would tell me that the file couldn't be uploaded, even though I could clearly see that it was successfully saved.
6. It doesn't sync across devices
I love being able to access my data wherever I go, but unfortunately, Google Docs does not allow users to share their documents across devices. This is extremely frustrating because I can't easily take notes on my phone while walking around campus, then transfer those notes to my laptop later.
